In the framework of the Trans Musicales' 30th edition, the Aire Libre hosts the band Orka, from the Faroe Islands, for an 8 day residence. On the initiative of Jean-Louis Brossard, art director of the Trans
Musicales, Orka will be joined by Yann Tiersen for its first concert in France.
Budam, another discovery from the Faroe Islands, will be the opening act of this event, where Yann Tiersen is expected to perfectly
marry his musical universe to the distinct sound of Orka.

Rough, mystic, dirty, strange, crazy, sparkling… one word is not enough to describe Orka's music. One of the most original and innovating bands in the Faroe Islands, Orka's uncommon live shows are rendered even more peculiar by their jumble of DIY instruments. Back in their country, they go from farm to farm playing music on anything they can lay their hands on. The farm of one of the musicians' uncle doubled as a recording studio for "Livandi Oya", the band's debut album. The farm also provided the tools and scrap material transfigured in 5 days by Jens Thomsen into the instruments used on the album. Founder of Orka and one of the sound engineers on Travis' latest album, he managed to capture Orka's distinct sound on tape. To celebrate the recording of the album and New Year's Eve, the band performed an improvised concert for their friends in the farmhouse!
Orka's sound is a staggering surprise to the unsuspecting ear. Nevertheless, the association of its unique sounds to a perfect command of groove and composition makes Orka's music easily accessible. Jens Thomsen knows how to extract music from any makeshift instrument made from the most "un-musical" materials. The listener is immersed in a visual and auditory euphoria by the freshness and novelty emanating from Orka's live performances. Yann Tiersen immediately took up Jean-Louis Brossard's proposition of working with Orka on an exclusive creation during their residency at the Aire Libre.
Budam, opening act of this exceptional night, is an impressive charismatic singer whose deep voice reminds one of Tom Waits or
Leonard Cohen. In his own terms, he's a singer who acts or an actor who sings, telling his audience stories of demons, angels, lovers and murderers. In the heart of the North Atlantic, an active musical and artistic community is growing quietly but surely, impregnated by the
harshness and the beauty of its homeland. During 5 magical shows, the Trans Musicales offer their public a unique chance to discover the effervescent music and artistic scene of the Faroe Islands, one of the last paradises on earth.
